outofstateplates

You know that guy you get stuck behind,
the one with the out of state plates?

He must be an old lady or someone trying
to save on gas.

When you finally pass with your angry acceleration
and glare to let me know that I've offended you,
don't be surprised that I'm in my late twenty's
wearing a baseball cap with a familiar logo
and smiling like an idiot.

I'm listening to jazz...man.

(Name this famous trumpet player and earn a gold star!)

That my friends, is Freddie Hubbard. He played with many of the greats, including the Montgomery brothers as a teenager. He even won a Grammy, if I recall. (Wikipedia confirms this fact.) However, some of his jazz fusion / rock experiments were derided in the late 70s.

Nice work James...er...Jim Jiminy, you get a gold star! This is indeed Freddie Hubbard. I love his work with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and his albums with CTI are pretty solid. Check out "Here's That Rainy Day" on the album Straight Life.

Hubbard: Trumpet/Flugelhorn
Joe Henderson: Saxophone
George Benson: Guitar
Herbie Hancock: Piano
Ron Carter: Bass
Jack DeJohnette: Drums
Richie Landrum: Percussion
Weldon Irvine: Tambourine

Dang man, quite the lineup. I wish I could have been Freddie Hubbard's tambourine man.
