Yes, the anteaters. This is just another reason to go to UCI, cool mascot, crappy football team (do they even have one?). Also, some of the opening scenes from Battle for the Planet of the Apes were filmed there. Though the Commodore may be a cooler mascot, the intangibles of the Planet of the Apes connection really give UCI a boost in the rankings. And a tree? Anteaters pee on trees if I'm not mistaken. Pop-quiz!
k this is just a guess, I swear I haven't looked on google or anything. But is it the Santa Cruz wave? My cousin went there and I can vaguely remember him mentioning a wave of sorts.
I recall that UCSB are the Gauchos that aren't actually gauchos but are Zorro-looking Cowboys. A few years ago I wrote to UCSB about how blantantly wrong their depiction of a gaucho was and I actually got an email explaining that it wasn't their problem or something like that.

Congratulations! I'm very happy for you. This is just the beginning. Next, Washington U, Vanderbilt, NYU.
I bet my anteater could take out your bear or commodore or violet. Especially the one in the picture.
Woo-hoo! Everyone should move to California.
Is their mascot really an anteater? Not that I have any room to judge... just curious, that's all.
Aw, c'mon now. Anteater vs. Commodore? Really? And yes, everyone should move to CA but some of us can only visit for now. Congrats!

What is the UC Santa Cruz mascot?
congrats Ben!! My uncle got his masters degree there. Warm California sounds pretty nice right now.

Nope, not a wave. Though that would go well with Stanford's tree. It's cooler than a wave.

Congrats! Santa Cruz is a banana slug--I used to want to go there way back when I was a pseudo-hippie in high school...
