I was introduced to his poetry last year and I really think it's great. I'm looking to reference him in my dissertation.
Today I'm picking up an anthology of his poetry that came form ILL. I've read some of it here and there on the internet. I really like some of his recurring themes. I also want to read his narrative. Between all the UC libraries I should be able to get my hands on it. What is your dissertation about?
Basically and so far I'm looking to write about ecopoetry and ekphrasis in the Southern Cone. I would reference Pacheco as what I consider a Latin American ecopoet.
I'm just struggling to do all my reading. Doing extra stuff is...woah, man, way too much for me.
Mateus, Pacheco's poetry is great in that he fits a lot of ideas into pretty concise poems. Look for a book called Tarde o temprano. It's a book of his complete poetry (there are about three editions because he's still writing)and you could get through about 4-5 poems when you go to the john. I really think you will like his stuff, esp. since you were a history major.
