Wait a tic. You play bass? How'd I miss that one? A good friend of mine, also a bass player, is now a CPA at Fender Guitars. He gets killer discounts and not just on Fender stuff.
And speaking from experience, it's never too late to be a rock star. Just listen to golden vocal chords of Romeo and The Late Greats. "Turpentine" is a great song to start with, but you already know that.
Technically I'm not a bass player. My brother played bass when he was younger and I used to play with his guitar all the time and try to figure out the bass lines to my favorite songs. Eventually I'll pick one of these two up and I either take some lessons or just figure out some songs by ear and play along to all my music.

Oh, Wilco is one of those bands who's tracks I love to play along to. I also really love what Sting does with the bass.
